Retsu - Shourinji Kenpou

Retsu is a budhist monk and martial arts teacher, who is friend's with Ryu and Ken's teacher. He enters Sagat's tournament to restore honor of his temple by showing his fighting style.

However, Retsu would perform illegal techniques, which the temple's monks saw as dishonorable, and would eventually be kicked out. After the tournament, he had thought twice of his ways, and became a hermit.

Retsu's favorite hobby is to eat or make candy / sweet food.

In the Street Fighter ++ meta, Retsu's main use is against Adon. However, most match-ups are very unfavorable for Retsu, not exceeding beyond that really. Likely a cause of Retsu being a "tutorial" character. Also doesn't help Retsu's hurtbox is always larger when a player selects Retsu. In Singleplayer mode, Retsu's hurtbox changes size depending on the difficulty. The easy one is for the beginning, and is larger.

Retu's stage is likely a fictional monastery, but bears resemblance to the Hokkiji (法起寺), in Nara Prefecture.

Retsu (on'yomi for 烈) can mean violent, furious, or extreme.

Retsu's "illegal" move may have been unintentional, but it's likely his Heavy Kick due to its off-set hitbox.

Shourinji Kenpou (on'yomi for 少林寺拳法) essentially means Shaolin martial arts.

Retsu is on the Street Fighter 6 World Tour mode.
