Gen - Tanglangquan Gen is a notorious assassin known as "The Devil of Hong Kong", who has become a highly saught after legend, often seen in underground scenes, but undisputed.

Gen specializes in medicine, but also in writing poems, possibly to archive secrets of his fighting style.

In the Street Fighter ++ meta, Gen's main uses are against Sagat. While he has a decent match-up spread, Gen is generally unfavorable against Birdie and Eagle. So depending on what format it is, he's either very important, or just mediocre at best. He has a lack of approaching options, but is great once you get in, while also being quite good at defensive play.

Despite being listed in Chinese stages, his stage is set in Hong Kong. (ruled by Great Britain as of 1987)

Gen (romanization for 元) can mean origin, source, foundation, or beginning.

Tanglangquan (romanization for 螳螂拳) means Praying Mantis Fist.

Gen was originally supposted to be Chun Li's father, but was scrapped.

Gen returns in the Street Fighter Alpha series as a playable character.
